Infection Control is about limiting and controlling the factors that influence the transmission of infection or that contribute to the spread of micro-organisms from one patient to another or from the patient to the dental care provider .
So we have the duty of care to our patients that we must ensure adequate infection control measures such as:

Personal protective equipment:
As gloves,masks,eye protection,protective clothing,footwear

Cleaning the environment:
All surfaces are cleaned after each patient with ethyl alcohol and antiseptic solutions. The surfaces are also wrapped with plastic covers that are changed after each patient.

Sterilization of the instruments used:
After each patient all the instruments used are washed thoroughly with special brushes under running water. After that the instruments are soaked in CIDEX solution for hours which is considered high level disinfectant and it is trusted by hospitals all over the world.

Then the instruments are packed and sealed to be put in the autoclave.
An autoclave is a device that uses a high pressure saturated steam at very high temperatures to sterilize the instruments and other equipment. This means that all bacteria, viruses, fungi and spores are inactivated.

The autoclave used in our dental office is MELAG autoclave which is considered one of the best.
